What are lip fillers?
Lip filler treatment is a medical injection procedure intended to change lip volume or contour. Temporary options include hyaluronic acid products. Suitability of the specific product for use in the lips must be considered.

Wanting a change does not necessarily mean that filler is needed. Your expectations may extend beyond what filler can achieve. We begin by discussing what you want to change and how it relates to your own lip anatomy.
Planning a natural appearance
A natural appearance involves more than a small amount of filler. The relationship between the upper and lower lip, the lip borders, profile and movement when smiling all matter. There is no single lip shape or ratio suitable for everyone.
A photograph may help you explain your expectations, but reproducing another person’s lips exactly is not a realistic aim. I prefer to plan around your own facial features.
What I assess at the first consultation
- Expectations: whether the concern involves volume, definition or asymmetry, and the limits of the proposed change.
- Previous procedures: the product and timing of earlier filler, any problems, and other facial treatments.
- Medical history: medicines, supplements, allergies, cold sores and other health conditions.
Bring information about previous filler products if available. Do not stop regular medication on your own; preparation advice depends on your health.
Active infection or inflammation around the lips may mean postponing treatment. Safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding are insufficient. Serious allergies and bleeding disorders require particular consideration.
Treatment and aftercare
Before treatment, we discuss the product, expected changes, alternatives and risks. Swelling, tenderness or bruising may follow; the appearance on the first day is not the final result.
Aftercare and review advice are individual. Follow your doctor’s advice about massage, exercise and returning to other procedures. The existing result should be assessed before deciding on further treatment.
Risks and symptoms requiring urgent assessment
Infection, allergic reactions and nodules can occur. An uncommon but serious risk is unintentional injection into a vessel, impairing blood flow. Permanent damage, including tissue loss and visual loss, can result.
Seek immediate medical assessment for unusually severe pain, whitening or grey-blue discolouration. Visual changes or sudden neurological symptoms require emergency medical care. Do not wait for your review appointment.
Frequently asked questions
How long do lip fillers last?
Duration varies with the product, treatment area and individual factors. No single duration can be promised to everyone. We discuss expected duration and follow-up for the selected product.
Is treatment painful?
The lips are sensitive. Suitable numbing options may help reduce discomfort, but stinging or burning may still occur. A completely painless procedure cannot be guaranteed.
Can the result be judged while the lips are swollen?
Both filler and swelling contribute to the early appearance. Assessment at a review is preferable to an early decision to add more filler. Unexpected pain or colour changes should be assessed without waiting.
Does everyone need the same amount?
No. Existing anatomy, previous treatment and the desired change differ. An amount or photograph seen online cannot replace an individual plan.
Can lip filler be completely reversed?
Reduction or removal depends on the material; not every product can be easily reversed. Corrective procedures also carry risks. Product composition and possible correction options should be discussed beforehand.
What happens at the first consultation?
At my practice in Çankaya, we first discuss your concerns and expectations. Your health, previous procedures and the relationship between your lips and the rest of your face are assessed together. A consultation does not mean that treatment must follow.
Considering the whole face
The lips are not assessed in isolation. Read more about my overall approach on the dermal filler page.
